Lake
District walks - Gowbarrow Fell
Here
is the bridge at Dockray. The path starts about 100 yards
along the road to the right.
This is one of the four houses at Ulcat Row, and we have started
climbing.
Looking north to Great Mell Fell.
The fell-top cairn, looking north-east over Ullswater towards the
Pennines.
Looking further to the north. You can see Little Mell Fell,
and Penrith.

We have now turned south-east, down the main path from the top (not
shown on my OS map), and you can see some of the high fells at the
southern end of Ullswater. This picture was taken at 5x zoom,
so they are not that close.
This
is without any zoom, so you can see the southern end of the
lake. Directly beyond the lake, in the centre, is St Sunday
Crag, in front of Fairfield; moving right you see Dollywaggon Pike
behind Striding Edge which leads up to Helvellyn, the highest point on
the right
Slightly
lower down, so you can see Glencoyne Park, which is where you can
admire Wordsworth's "host of golden daffodils".
The
trees in the foreground hide Aira Beck and Aira Force.
Here
are some pictures of the daffodils. Samba certainly
appreciated them...
