Welcome to Highbridge Cottages in Braithwaite!

And to the English Lake District, one of the most beautiful places on this planet!

Braithwaite, the village where the two self-catering holiday cottages are located, is a walker's paradise in the northern Lake District. Nestling at the foot of the Whinlatter pass, it acts as a gateway to the whole of the north-western chain of hills - the favourite part of the Lakeland fells for Wainwright, the sage of all Lakeland walkers, and he knew what he was talking about! The village is also only two miles from Keswick, the capital of the northern Lakes in Cumbria, and ten miles from Cockermouth, the birthplace of William Wordsworth. The northern Lake District offers plenty of attractions for those who just wish to relax or enjoy themselves in stimulating surroundings. For something almost unique in England, recently a pair of wild ospreys have started nesting and rearing their chicks just round the corner from Braithwaite; you can watch them catch fish in Bassenthwaite Lake just a mile or so away.

The self-catering holiday cottage accommodation in Braithwaite form part of a short terrace raised up above Coledale Beck, which flows gently past the forecourt.

To the north and east of the village are dramatic views of Skiddaw and Blencathra....

while to the south and west are all the fells of the north-western range.

You have two holiday cottages to choose from: they are next door to each other in the same building, and can be hired either separately or as one unit. High Bridge sleeps 6, Highbridge Cottage sleeps 4, or 5 with the collapsible bed. Both cottages offer self-catering holiday accommodation equipped to the same high level (ETC 4 stars), and are non-smoking and dog-friendly.

Please note: at Highbridge Cottages we try to work and live in an environmentally sustainable way, and we naturally would like our guests to do the same.  For example, we encourage you not to use your car, which is certainly not essential during any visit, and the weekly rates for the cottages are discounted by 10% if you travel to and from the cottage by public transport.  For the same reason, if you are not interested in recycling and careful use of energy,  we would politely ask you to make your booking with somebody else.  Thank you.
